A helping hand
At the Midrand office, they decided that the best way to help the community would be by filling their stomachs on Mandela Day 2016. Midrand is like an ever evolving city. During the booming years, it was one of South Africa’s fastest growing towns which resulted in many modern and upmarket homes being built.
Just Property Midrand approached the Midrand West Community Clinic. The clinic receives loads of patients on a daily basis. The Midrand franchise donated and contributed to making individually packed sandwiches, they provided fruit and tea/coffee for the patients on the day! For that day, Just Property Midrand helped approximately 200 patients ranging from kids to grandparents.
Mandela Day was introduced in 2009 to motivate a nationwide campaign to get the public to get involved in charitable activities. From 2010, the UNGA (the General Assembly of the United Nations) decided that 18 July would be International Mandela Day.
This day also coincides with Mandela’s birthday. On this day we recognise and celebrate Mandela’s commitment to human rights, conflict resolution and reconciliation. On this day we do not only celebrate Nelson Mandela’s life and birthday, but it is also a global call to action for people to recognise their ability to have a positive effect on the surrounding community.
On Mandela Day we are encouraged to spend 67 minutes doing something for others. The 67 minutes represents the 67 years that Mandela spent fighting against Apartheid. There are many activities to partake in order to play your part. These activities include: volunteering, sport, art, education, music and culture.
