Want a good night’s sleep? Find out which colours to use in your bedroom to help you relax and recharge after a busy day.
We spend around 33% of our lives sleeping so the bedroom deserves special attention when it comes to the colours and decor. The colours you choose will set the atmosphere and have an effect on you physically and mentally. The right "colour therapy" in the bedroom can help you to relax and rejuvenate after a busy and stress filled day.
Blue Colour Therapy
People with blue bedrooms tend to get the best night’s sleep and wake up feeling positive and happy. This is due to the calming, cooling and relaxing qualities of blue, which are said to slow the heart rate, reduce blood pressure and help combat headaches.
The blues recommended are sky blues, duck egg blues and navy blues. Electric blues are more rejuvenating and invigorating.
Red Colour Therapy
Red on the other hand is warming and energizing. While it may be too stimulating to get a good night’s rest, red is said to energize the heart, improve blood circulation and improve the libido.
Pink Colour Therapy
Pink is emotionally soothing and calming. It relieves feeling of loneliness and depression and brings an air of optimism and happiness.
Purple Colour Therapy
A mixture of relaxing blue and energizing red, purple creates and air of luxury and sophistication, but it can reduce the number of hours you sleep. Since purple stimulates creativity and the unconscious mind, it may cause you to have more vivid dreams and leave you to waking up feeling tired.
Green Colour Therapy
Green links us the natural world, it is a balancing colour that is soothing and relaxing both physically and mentally. Again, there are so many shades of green, the more yellow and bright the green the more invigorating. Soft and grey greens are recommended for the bedroom to make it more calming and relaxing.
Yellow Colour Therapy
Yellow is a bright, uplifting colour which also stimulates the mind. Too much yellow will have our thoughts working overtime, stick to soft buttery tones if you want to get more rest.
White Colour Therapy
White is associated with peace and tranquillity, it's simplicity helps to clear our mind and refresh the soul. Beware of bright whites which can lead to headaches, soft whites are very relaxing and calming for the mind, body and soul.
Colours can be added into your bedroom decor through the paint colour, furniture, decor accessories and bed linen.
